Opt to honor God with as much or little cash as is available and make up the difference by honoring God directly via Real Acts of Caring (value the Acts at twice the minimum wage).
Church:
$100 per church plus $5 per month per adult church attendee. Opt to honor God with as much or little cash as God leads you to provide and make up the difference by honoring God directly via Real Acts of Caring beyond what you will otherwise do (value the Acts at twice the minimum wage).
As you can see, it is visually based. You can SEE the layout of sentences.
Grammar ideas are dealt with using little graphics. New grammar ideas are presented and a couple of old ones explained differently.
It makes remembering grammar easier. I am convinced it will help kids learn grammar better- both faster and more thoroughly. It can help kids catch up. It can help with ESL. It can help with homeschooling.
Introducing: The Symbols Language System: a symbol-based language system
Take a quick peek. See what you think:
Symbols show grammar concepts:
- subject
- transitive verb
- object
Which is easier to understand?
Tom jumped
Tom was hit
Tom hit the ball
Subject Transitive verb Object
Tom jumped
Tom was hit
Subject Intransitive verb
Subject Passive verb
Tom hit the ball
You have never even seen the symbols before, and you are probably already saying, “Oh, I get it!”
Try this:
For: God created mankind the word order in 3 languages will be:
God created mankind
God mankind created
Created God mankind
You just compared a sentence in 3 languages using symbols. You see the grammar.
Variations within a language are easier to deal with, and to SEE.
Variations between languages are easier to deal with, and to SEE.
Complicated structures become more easily analyzed symbols.
What makes this language system useful
Symbols-based- makes sentence analysis quicker and easier.
Explains what is really happening when a sentence is put together.
Redefines 'subject' and 'object' as ‘assumed reality’ and ‘limiting reality’ so they make more sense.
Totally new concepts- pullover, pushover
Additional pronouns (we have 11 of them)
Redefines how a sentence works- so it makes sense
See how a sentence works in pictures- so it makes sense quickly
Symbols simplify the review process.
You see options in the grammar you will miss otherwise.
_____
Each type of grammar (noun, verb, pronoun) gets its own unique symbol. Variations of each type are indicated by variations in the main symbol. Short definitions go with each of the symbols.
I developed over 400 symbols for this material, and that doesn’t cover everything. Do not memorize all the symbols. Learn some basic ones, and look up the rest as needed.
_____
Why I developed SLS
I was writing Bible-centered materials. I was working with Greek, Hebrew, and of course English. Ever try to learn the grammars of 3 languages? English, Greek, Hebrew. Pages and pages and books of explanations made learning and reviewing hard. That can be confusing. And my forgetter works very well. My need to handle more and more grammar in the three languages got to be too much.
So I started drawing symbols for the concepts.
What I discovered is that I could analyze sentences more thoroughly and quickly using symbols. The symbols were especially useful for reviewing ideas, and for finding different ways a word could be used that I would totally not think of otherwise. It is a lot easier and faster to run your eye down a row of 10 or 20 symbols than to read 10 to 20 descriptions, and a lot less distracting when you are trying to hold the original sentence in mind as you consider how it can be understood. At least for me.
How I developed SLS
I started drawing sort-of-simple pictures to represent various aspects of grammar. Over time I simplified the pictures and found out they not only make it simpler to analyze sentences, they make it quicker and more thorough.
I discovered 11 pronouns. Actually, I saw hints of two more that I didn’t list. There comes a time when a person has to move on from a project.
As I worked on the meaning of the Hebrew word often translated “and”- the waw or vav, I realized that often what was happening was the word was pulling or pushing one concept over another. It was showing the contextual relationship between words and/or phrases. This turned out to be something bigger than I initially expected when I discovered the idea. I had discovered pullovers and pushovers.
I really struggled with figuring out what a ‘subject’ and ‘object’ are. Current wobbly definitions just don’t work. And getting a handle on what a sentence is and how it works was just as difficult.
I finally realized a ‘subject’ is simply an Assumed Reality.
And an ‘object’ is simply a Limiting Reality.
This is true no matter what type of sentence you are dealing with, or in what language.
Knowing this I could finally conclude:
Verbs are limiters.
A Limiting Reality (“object”) is a limiter.
A ('preposition')- another limiter.
An indirect object - another limiter. And so on...
A sentence is an Assumed Reality (“subject” ‘Tom’) with limiters. That's it.
Tom filled balloons.
A sentence is a process of limiting an Assumed Reality
Tom filled balloons with helium.
More limiting
Every sentence has an Assumed Reality, stated or implied, real or imaginary. And every Assumed Reality is limited, whether stated or implied.
Bet you didn’t think you would get a basic grammar lesson while learning about the Symbols Language System.
You can easily miss potential meanings when you operate just from memory. And trying to track all the possible grammar meanings of a word using a list of words like “transitive” and “intransitive”- that is quite difficult. With this system you use a column of simple pictures you can quickly run your eye over, with short definitions for the pictures you don’t know- that is simpler and quicker.
And it leads to insights you will miss otherwise.
I used English, Greek, and Hebrew concepts to develop this system.
I use Bible verses and concepts for many examples- like Genesis 1:27 above
Right now you can download PDFs with everything I put together. It is not a finished product. As is, teachers can simply select what they need and ignore the rest.
If you are teaching grade schoolers a lot of the material will be something you can ignore. If you are an English major, you will find a different way of viewing sentences overall, and some new concepts.
An adult might learn the basics- and use them- in a one-day seminar. Okay, maybe 2 days.
Note: I have not thoroughly proof-read this material. There are spelling errors, and mistakes in what symbol got placed where.
This can be adapted for school kids, ESL, Bible translation, business (international included), remedial work, and college students. Multiple languages. Multiple countries.
I am convinced this will help kids learn grammar better- both faster and more thoroughly. It can help kids catch up. It can help with ESL. It can help with homeschooling.
What is available
Color in the picture
This is a demonstrative pronoun .
Connect the dots and then color it
It points out a certain one or a certain type and takes the place of a noun / reality - 'this, that, these, those, she, such’ etc.

What makes this system complicated:
There are no individual books for different grade levels or for different uses like ESL.
This has material for all levels of English students. You need to go through the material a first time to get basic concepts down. Then you go through it again to get more depth.
This work is not polished. I often used shortcuts to get ideas down without using proper grammar (!?!) and full sentences. This is not a fully finished, polished book. This is the material final books, from grade school textbooks to workbooks, ESL, computer games, etc., can be based on. There is a lot of information in this material. Language is complicated.
